"My pots, mainly hand-built, are manifestations of the enduring themes of my experience. They are a conversation between the pseudo perfection of geometric pattern and the tactile impurity of hand-manipulated clay. My professional background is in Architecture and my work remains unequivocally architectural to my eyes and is influenced by my training and profession in many ways. However, natural forms reflecting my upbringing in Iceland and exposure to the extraordinary in nature are also reference points."
Björk Haraldsdóttir trained and worked as an Architect for over 20 years, and her professional background informs strong geometric form in her ceramics and sculpture.
Training to become a Ceramicist has happened in a fluid way through part time training and a significant amount of self-teaching and experimentation.
A background in Architecture has been formative through knowledge of materials and construction in the creation of art works.
Practical knowledge of how clay behaves under different environmental exposure has been mainly gained at a Somerset Pottery under the guidance of Master Potter Douglas Phillips.
Björk lives and works in West Dorset.
