Overview

Today, the distinctive works of naive artist Joan Gillchrest (1918-2008) are as collected as those of the two greatest influences on her work - Christopher Wood, and Alfred Wallis.

From the late 1950s onwards - from her studio at Old Hill Cottage perched high above Mousehole - Joan painted not only the hardiness of West Cornwall's fishing and farming communities, but also the carefree holidaymakers, enjoying Cornwall's golden beaches, and sunny harbours.
