This painting shows Minnie’s depiction of two stories that relate to women’s ceremonies.
‘Awelye’ (Body Painting) are designs applied to the women’s upper body for ceremonial purposes. The iconography is painted primarily across the women’s upper torso.
The smaller circles represent the bush melons seeds, the melon comes from a small bush approx one metre in height and have a sweet pleasant taste.
The ceremonies are very important for the Anmatyerre women. Through body painting, song and dance they tell the stories of long traditions and customs.
