Overview

Stacey West is an award-winning contemporary jeweller whose handcrafted jewellery is inspired by the rugged Cornish coastline. Her latest collections of jewellery are the 'Interlocking Strata' and the 'Found Treasures' series:

The 'Interlocking Strata' collection encourages the wearer to interact with moveable, interlocking textured glass and metal elements. Caged within a handcrafted sterling silver structure the elements move freely and satisfyingly interlock, creating an experience for the wearer, whilst retaining a luxury aesthetic inspired by the lines, textures and colours found in the stratified cliffs of the beautiful beaches in Cornwall. Each piece is a cast of a rock texture from the Cornish coast, moulded in wax and then cast in a variety of metals or glass, owning its own individual features which are layered together as a complete jewellery item that explores contrasts between line and texture, organic and geometric, and translucency and opaqueness.

The 'Found Treasures' collection is inspired by the many hours Stacey has spent beachcombing and plays with the idea of finding something beautiful within an otherwise unremarkable material as well as highlighting the misconceptions of the processes within the gemstone industry. Pewter and silver are used to create a contrasting combination of geometric shape and organic form as gemstones appear to emerge from the uneven surface.

Based in Bude, North Cornwall, Stacey graduated from Plymouth College of Art, BA (Hons) Degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing in 2016. Winner of Pewter Live 2015, and High Commendation from the Giftware Association.

Stacey West's unique jewellery is being shown for the first time in St Ives at the Porthminster Gallery.
