Paul Armitage is a Lamorna based painter whose abstracted, constructional paintings are informed by his encounters with the land- and seascapes of West Cornwall: farms, old mines and quarries outcropping from the valleys and long skylines. His paintings reflect the forces of erosion and deposition in the landscape through his practise of building-up and scouring away layers of paint.
Originally from the North of England, Paul graduated with an MA in Fine Art from Reading University in 2009 and went on to become the painting tutor for the Foundation course at Basingstoke College. He also worked as a studio assistant to Sandra Blow RA until her death in 2006.
